Bowmer & Kirkland Appoint RW Joinery For Conwy Council Prestigious Offices

The new civic building in Colwyn Bay town centre, North Wales, enables the development of a new four-storey, BREEAM Excellent, 100,000 sq ft office building for Conwy County Borough Council, which will accommodate around 750 staff and replace up to thirteen existing offices.

The scheme will contribute to the Council’s continued regeneration of the town, having already invested over £50 million in recent years for the modernisation of the promenade, extensive coastal defences incorporating a new beach and redevelopment of the stadium at Parc Eirias to provide an international sports and events facility.

Cllr Dilwyn Roberts, Leader of Conwy County Borough Council, said: “This new office building will not only help to streamline our office accommodation, but it’s also a key part of our regeneration programme in Colwyn Bay – bringing people into the heart of a town brings vitality, footfall and spend.”

Bowmer & Kirkland recognise the importance of this building for the client and when joinery was discussed asked us to work with them to achieve a quality that was paramount to achieving their client’s expectations.
This was no easy task when the high specification included 2300mm high door leaves with an 1100mm high overpanel and a 34 RwdB acoustic reduction.

To ensure the perfection demanded from our client we needed to achieve the most from our manufacture. We matched all the veneers to all the leaves and overpanels to ensure that the grain colour, texture and patterns aligned. During our calculations on size we even made allowance for the tolerance gaps.

The overall result is stunning. The perfect veneers align completely through the leaf and overpanel. Each bespoke doorset is stunning.
There are 277 bespoke doorsets within this project. We are installing these together with a very high standard of ironmongery and other miscellaneous joinery items.

“It is rare that a client asks for such a high level of specification, and we are pleased to have achieved an even higher finish with our attention to detail. To ensure absolute certainty of veneer alignment we have pressed the door leaf and over panel separately one side at a time. Whilst this has doubled the leaf pressing time the overall appearance is spectacular”.
