Wall Panelling at One St. Peters Square, Manchester

Prior to our appointment, our client placed a supply only order with another doorset manufacturer. Our challenge was to manage this external supplier and supply and install the ironmongery and remaining joinery.

Managing the doorset supplier was a relatively straightforward process as being manufacturers ourselves we understand the complexities of manufacture and were able to foresee any issues they may have had before they arose. The actual supply was late and often frustrating but with our proactive management and keeping our client informed they were able to offer support when it was needed.

Although a significant part of the works the doorsets palled to insignificance compared to the jewel in the One St Peters Square crown. The main entrance including the reception desk and wall panelling.

The architect and client had a very definite opinion of what they required the reception area to look like. Before we started any contract works we manufactured a mock full-sized reception desk and several baffle gates from MDF painted matt white, to allow the client to visualise the final layout.

The finished appearance requested Walnut wall panelling and detailing. Countless meetings with the end user, his designers and Carillion and countless samples of veneers and solid timbers concluded that random appearance to the wall panelling would look the most natural and therefore aesthetically pleasing.

How far random can go before agreement, led to our Managing Director inviting the end user, his designers and Carillion to our production facilities whilst we had laid out all the panelling in one area of our production facilities. Directors from each company and the client took turns in re-positioning individual boards until all were satisfied that they had created a truly random layout. Each board was individually labelled before being processed, lacquered and transported to site for installation.

We are proud to be associated with this development which we believe to look very spectacular.
