Stockport Exchange RW Joinery

RW Joinery Appointed Joinery Contractor to Hotel and Prestigious Office Development at Stockport Exchange

50 Years ago RW Joinery was formed and started trading for business in Railway Road in Stockport. 50 years later on and to celebrate our half centenary we will return to the same site but with a totally different objective.

We are pleased to publicise that we have been selected by Eric Wright Construction to supply high specification and luxury finished doorsets and joinery as part of their flagship development in Stockport, on Railway Road. The footprint of these new prestigious offices is located directly over our old workshops

Stockport Council bought the site in 2011 to bring forward an office-led development, which will include a hotel and improved car parking, and create an attractive new gateway to the town centre.

Phase One consisted of a new 1,000 space multi-storey car park and a range of highway improvements and was completed at the beginning of 2014.

Stockport Council is using its own borrowing powers to fund the second phase, which will deliver a c.43,000 sq ft five-storey office building (with 6,350 sq ft of retail space at ground floor), a 115 bed hotel and a ‘gateway’ pedestrianised public space opposite the station entrance. Construction is now under way.

Phase Three will include further office buildings, extension of the open space and further improved accessibility for pedestrians, and will be delivered on a phased basis up to 2020.

The scheme will ultimately deliver up to 370,000 sq ft of offices, along with attractive public spaces outside the railway station, improved car parking facilities and a wide range of cafes and shops at ground floor. Ease of access to the town centre is a major feature.

Muse Developments is Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council’s development partner for Stockport Exchange, a £145m gateway site linking the railway station and the retail core of the town centre.

The hotel shall form part of the Holiday Inn group of hotels and will be fitted out to the latest Holiday Inn branding the first of the new look outside London. RW Joinery shall be responsible for all the internal joinery including the newly designed flagship doorsets.

The offices are designed as a Category A standard and the finish of the doorsets in polished American White Oak veneered and hardwoods will reflect this perfectly.

RW Joinery will now manufacture over 530 doorsets in under four weeks to achieve a final handover later this year.

Chris Robinson, Managing Director for RW Joinery commented:

“This is a very positive perfect storm. RW Joinery are 50 years old shortly and we were looking for a way to celebrate our continued success, growth and that we remain a local employer. To secure a very prestigious contract from our own council and their partners and to assist with building something very special to Stockport’s own development plan is something to celebrate but to build this on the very site that we started on fifty years ago makes this very special for us. I look forward to telling Mr Robinson Senior and the sons of Mr Williams that we are returning to Railway Road once more.”
