For a long time safety doors had an incredibly bad press. It wasn’t hard to see why, whilst these doors were highly functional and provided increased levels of safety and security within the interiors they were installed, they were often horrific in appearance and in some installations actually detracted from the aesthetics of the interior.
Thankfully this is no longer the case, door frames have come a long way in recent years. As one of the leading suppliers of doorframes within the UK, as demonstrated by our status as approved supplier to a number of leading construction companies, we have been at the forefront of the safety door makeover. This is especially true of our efforts within the educational sector, due to the nature of these buildings it is important that an environment that is inspiring and motivating is produced, safety doors should therefore enhance this.
In order to ensure that all the safety doors that we install in an educational setting enhance the aesthetics and appearance of the interior, we work closely with the project’s key decision makers from the outset. Sometimes this involves reusing existing fittings where possible, like on the project we completed at the Tauheedul Islam Girls’ School. During this project we had to manufacture over one hundred new doorsets. In order to ensure compliance to the specific requirements of the project, many of these new doors had to be bespoke to fit the existing openings.
It is not just the wooden aspects of the safety door in some cases that requires fire certification, sometimes our clients would like glazed screens in their safety doors to enhance the learning atmosphere. This was the case on the project we completed for Manchester College’s Fielden Campus at Didsbury. The doors we fitted here were finished in a range of vibrant colours to tie in with the location plan. In addition, they were fitted with large fire certified glazed screens.
In some of the projects we have completed, the safety and fire doors have actually become a prominent feature. This was certainly the case with the project we performed for Trafford College Manchester, who selected over-sized fire and acoustic certified doorsets. In order to provide these, the doorsets were manufactured in our workshop and then installed by our dedicated team of joiners to ensure the unique design was successfully achieved.
