Bowmer & Kirkland Appoint RW Joinery For The Wellbeing Health Centre Altrincham

The construction of the new South Trafford Health and Well-being Centre, on the site of the former Altrincham Hospital on Market Street, Altrincham, is now approaching completion, following the appointment of the main contractor Bowmer and Kirkland.

It will incorporate GP health services; a new and improved Altrincham Library and Tourist Information Centre; the Trafford Co-ordination Centre; a mix of community services and therapies; a pharmacy; and clinical suites and training areas, including a minor surgery suite, alongside retail space and a café.

The complexity of the doorset brief allowed us to take control of the design development to achieve a product satisfactory to both Bowmer & Kirkland and the end users. And this was no easy task.

Using a very complex mixture of laminates, PVC facing and bespoke edge protection with flush glazing beads and concealed ironmongery, we had to pay particular attention to the assessments of our fire certification, the tested limits of the facing and the combination of the ironmongery and sizes.

The knowledge and expertise from within our Production Department has ensured that our doorsets meet fully with our fire certification. This has included careful assessment of intumescent profiles, glass specifications and core selection.

Our Stockade core has met with all the stringent client and fire assessment led demands on the project.

“Bowmer & Kirkland trust us. Sometimes that is all that matters. Early in the project they had been offered a quotation for doorsets from an ironmongery supplier. It was fraught with errors that would in my opinion lead to a disaster had a fire happened. B&K asked us to review the schedule and provide a viable solution. We have done that.

RW Joinery invest thousands each year into research and development, testing and assessments to insure that the product we make achieves the performance we demand.

There will never be a second chance to get that bit right.

There are several other professional manufacturers out there also. Unfortunately there are many who don’t quite understand what they should be doing. Until they achieve the correct level of third party certification they should not be allowed to sell or install product.”
